Bachy Soletanche were sub-contractor to Econ Corporation for the construction of the diaphragm walls for this interchange upgrading project. The project is marked by the passage of the new depressed roadway under the existing CTE bridge with a headroom of only 5.5m. Almost one third of the road tunnel is below the CTE. A total of 10,000m2 of 1.2m and 1.0m diaphragm wall were constructed in three walls - the two retaining walls (1.2m thick) and the inner seperating wall (1.0m thick). The project started in mid October 2000 and was competed in 10 weeks, finishing just before Christmas. BSS used the sophisticated KS 3000 hydraulic grab in normal mode for the open air sections (above) and in low headroom configuration (below) for the section below the bridge. The height of the low headroom miniKS is 6.2m and to enable the construction work, the platform was reduced by one metre to give a total headroom of 6.5m.
